Call it luck or a brilliant manifestation, but 8-year-old Ella Piazza knew she was going to the Buffalo Bills versus Kansas City Chiefs game to meet Taylor Swift.
“She had told her friends all week, ‘I am going to meet Taylor Swift,’” her mom Jessica said over a Zoom interview from New York City. “And some had said, ‘I don’t think you’re going to meet her.’ And she said, ‘I am.’”
Jessica and Ella originally had tickets to the Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers game that was moved from Jan. 14 to Jan. 15 after winter conditions made it difficult for fans to get to Highmark Stadium. For the game against the Chiefs, Jessica nabbed tickets on the other side of the stadium from the box where Swift was cheering on her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. Ella stayed up all night making a glittery sign of a simple math equation, "Buffalo Bills + Taylor Swift = Best First Game Ever."
"At halftime, we went with my mom’s friend and her brother, who was sitting directly in front of Taylor," Ella said.
Ella took her sign and determination to where a crowd gathered by security guards beneath the box. A shirtless Jason Kelce, Travis' brother, hopped out of the box to take some photos. That's when he saw Ella, picked her up and took her to show Swift the sign.
“It was just magical,” Jessica said. “It was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. She came back and started crying happy tears and it was so cool. He was so nice with her.”
During Swift's Eras tour, the mom-and-daughter saw her perform in Philadelphia on night three. One of the secret songs that night was Swift's track "Best Day" where she sings this line about her mom: "And you're the prettiest lady in the whole wide world."
"It was on Mother's Day," Jessica said. "And that song has been our special connection."
The two are hoping to see Swift again in Toronto, Canada at the end of her 2024 tour leg. Since Ella manifested the Buffalo Bills meeting, they are hoping to strike again. Maybe the third grader will get noticed by Swift's team and be the "22" hat recipient?
